ALL-DAY VOTER REGISTRATION DRIVE WILL TAKE PLACE AT IBERO’s MAIN OFFICE ON TUESDAY, MARCH 22ND
Application must be postmarked no later than March 25th and received by a board of elections no later than March 30th to be eligible to vote in New York State’s Primary
Non-partisan initiative one of several taking place in the Monroe County Latino community
On Tuesday, March 22nd, Ibero will host a voter registration drive at its main office at 817 East Main Street in Rochester for all residents in Monroe County. While all individuals who are eligible to vote are invited and encouraged to stop by, the effort is targeting Latino residents in Monroe County.
“This is a group that often feels disengaged from the election process. People often times say their vote doesn’t count, but we know that is not true. Every vote counts, and it’s important for all individuals to take advantage of our right to vote,” says Ibero President & CEO Hilda Rosario Escher.
With approximately 63,000 Latinos in Monroe County, Ibero and La Cumbre have been working together for the past year in an in-depth civic engagement effort that targets the Latino market.
Established in 2013, La Cumbre (The Forum) is a group that is comprised of members of both the Latino and non-Latino communities who meet to discuss topics such as education, economic development, arts and culture, and civic engagement. Workshops take place throughout the year to educate and engage residents. The next one is scheduled for Saturday, April 9th.
According to the Pew Research Center, “Hispanic millennials will account for nearly half (44%) of the record 27.3 million Hispanic eligible voters projected for 2016—a share greater than any other racial or ethnic group of voters.”
