IBERO’S SENIOR CENTER ONE OF FOUR CHOSEN BY MONROE COUNTY OFFICE FOR THE AGING TO IMPLEMENT A SPECIAL ARTS PROGRAM FOR ELDERS
SPANISH PRESENTATION WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE RBTL IN NEW COLLABORATION ON THURSDAY, JULY 6 AT 10:45AM
The Rochester Broadway Theatre League and the Ibero American Action League will host a unique community presentation that features stories and experiences from the seniors of Ibero’s Centro de Oro. The presentation will consist of original works from seniors titled “Cuentos del Alma.” The English translation is “Stories of the Soul.”
Their stories, songs, and memories will be shared primarily in Spanish at the RBTL Floreano Conference Center on Thursday, July 6th at 10:45am.
Centro de Oro (Center of Gold) is one of Ibero’s most popular programs under the Family Services division. Elders participate in educational programs to improve and maintain their health, socialize and share a hot meal. They also attend a variety of outings and activities that help boost their self-esteem remain active. Students from Nazareth College also visit regularly to monitor the seniors’ health.
Most of the Centro’s participants are of Latino descent and speak their native language with one another. Their memories and stories will be shared primarily in Spanish and preserved in an anthology that will be given out on Thursday.
