The Worker Ownership Resource Center, Inc. (WORC), Ibero's new affiliate, is a non-profit community economic development agency whose mission is to empower low-income and other economically disadvantaged people to participate fully in their local economies through the creation of business enterprises. For ten years, WORC has provided training, technical assistance, and access to start-up financing to economically disadvantaged microentrepreneurs, including refugees, political asylees, women, minorities, low-income and TANF (welfare) recipients.
Currently, WORC administers three major programs that offer entrepreneurial training assistance to economically disadvantaged entrepreneurs including our Enterprising People Program, serving low-income individuals in Rochester, NY; our Refugee Microenterprise Program, serving refugees and political asylees in Rochester and Utica, NY; and our Entrepreneurial Assistance Program, serving women, minorities and low-income individuals in Elmira, NY.
Assistance is offered on a continual basis and is made possible with additional funding from the U.S. Office of Refugee Resettlement, the Empire State Development Corporation, the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, the Rochester Area Community Foundation, the Women's Foundation of Genesee Valley and the Chase Manhattan Foundation.
